Aanchal Thakur: Accolades for India’s first skiing medallist

The 21-year-old Aanchal Thakur of Manali, Himachal Pradesh, has created history by giving India the first medal in skiing. Aanchal Thakur won a bronze medal at the Alpine Ejder 3200 Cup in Turkey, which was organised by the International Ski Federation (FSI).The All-European Elder 3200 Cup was held under the Turkish International Declaration (FC) in Turkey. Aanchal won bronze medal Slalom Race category on Tuesday as part of the tournament. This is the first time India won medal in the skiing.

On this occasion, Aanchal shared photos of the medal winning in her Twitter. “Finally something unexpected happened. My first ever international medal. Federation International Ski Race (FIS). At the end Turkey served me well, “said Anchal with One Himachal, Himalayan Girls Hashtags.

Central Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore has congratulated Aanchal through Twitter. “Congratulations to Anchal Thakur who won the bronze in the FIS International Skiing Contest held in Turkey. India has opened a medal account in the skiing department. Anchal learned skiing from his father. He is then trained at former Olympic medalist Hira Lal.

Anchal’s father Roshan said, “After the event, Anchal showed me a video call by Whatsaap. I think the FIS event is an incentive for all the participants of the event. But she said she won the bronze medal. Very happy, “he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to congratulate her.

In a tweet, Mr Modi said “the entire nation is ecstatic” over Ms Thakur’s “historic accomplishment”.
